If you are brand new to learning jazz drums you should NOT buy this book. This book is for the intermediate to advanced level jazz drummer who wants to quickly acquire new vocabulary and integrate it into their playing. If you are a beginner, we recommend you first start off with our course, "Ali Jackson: Universe of Grooves". That will give you everything you need to have a solid foundation.

You should know:

- The various rhythmic note values of quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes, and beyond.

- How to read odd time signatures.

The book is written in drum notation so familiarity with reading that is essential. However, the book does include a notation key to help guide you through reading all of the transcriptions.
