The guitar can be broken up into 5 main positions, and each line corresponds to one of these positions. By learning the lines in the context of their position and the surrounding chord voicings, you will vastly improve your retention of the line. Even though we can shift keys easily on the guitar, each key fits and feels differently on the guitar and lends itself to different vocabulary.
