I'm Chase Maddox
I’d like to tell you a story. It’s about WHY I do what I do, and why I’d like to help YOU achieve CONFIDENCE in your guitar playing and the FREEDOM to express yourself in your music and improvisation.
When I was 18, I was at a major crossroads in my life. I had to decide whether to go to college for biomedical engineering or jazz guitar. The critical question that set my path was asking myself: "What decision would my 80-year old self would be most happy with?". Instantly, I knew the answer.
The fact is, at no point would anyone have called me an exceptional guitarist. My major asset throughout my guitar journey has been my belief that improvement is always possible and my persistence in searching for the most efficient way to learn.
I am grateful to have studied at one of the best universities in the world for jazz guitar, but even then there were major areas of my playing that I didn't realize were neglected until years later.
My goal with Chase's Guitar Academy is to create the program I WISH I had when I started learning jazz, so that I can help as many people as possible get the lifelong fulfillment I have had through playing jazz guitar.
The reason I wanted to share my story with you is because I want you to know that if I can do it, so can you. And I want you to know that I have a system and curriculum that make your success inevitable.
This will be a program that has the structure, feedback, accountability, and community necessary to really give YOU, as an individual, consistent improvement on the guitar.

4 Weeks: Incredible Progress Via Jazz Standards
Week 1
How Pros Analyze Songs
In the first week I will introduce the jazz standard for the month and break down the important elements including a melodic and harmonic analysis, and important recordings and guitarists to listen to. This will give you time to learn the melody and become familiar with the various versions I will reference.
Week 2
Fretboard Freedom
In the second week I will show you how to develop fretboard technique and have your ideas flow, instead of being a trained animal who just repeats patterns. I'll teach you all the necessary building blocks for the song at hand, without letting you get overwhelmed in too many scales, triads, arpeggios, etc.
Week 3
Soloing As Naturally as You Speak
The third week is all about improving your improvisational ability. We will focus on how to construct a solo and play lines over the chord changes, starting from basic theory to more advanced concepts, and how to generate endless ideas that aren't boring or bland.
Week 4
Comping and Chord Melody
In this final week, we will practice various elements of our ability to play chords, including how to build chord melodies, how to go beyond Freddie Green style comping and expand your comping rhythms and voicings in a methodical way.
The Jazz Blues Accelerator Program
As part of your membership you will get access to my 6-week program teaching you how to go from blues/pentatonic scale soloing to playing over changes like a jazz musician.
